Johannes Gutenberg (how he supposedly looked)

The Gutenberg Bible, Johannes Gutenberg, 1450s

-Johannes Gutenburg, was an engineer, merchant and intellectual

-The Gutenburg Bible was the first book published, and was created using a one pull press

-books were originally hand copied by scribes and were very expensive because of this, and there were mistakes on occasion

-church and universities were very interested in mass producing and spreading certain ideas

-the Gutenburg press was based off the wine press

- Gutenburg chose a secluded place near water to work on his ideas, partially to keep away from competitors and partially to mass produce movable type.

-The type faces were made from a punch, which was copied in copper and molded with molten lead

-Gutenburg started to create his own paper once he realized how expensive vellum was.
